Marine epoxy paste


HYDROCOTE 1063 compound is a two-component, nonsag, marine epoxy paste that can be applied to vertical and horizontal surfaces, above and below the waterline, and in the presence of wave action.


  • Patching spalls in concrete

  • Resists wave action during and after cure (Heavy consistency and rapid set)
  • Will adhere to wood, concrete or steel, above or below waterline
  • Can be glove applied in thicknesses up to 1 in. (25 mm) in a single application
  • Cures down to 40° F (4° C)


HYDROCOTE 1063 marine epoxy paste is packaged in 2 U.S. gallon (7.6 liter) units.

Direct in-situ Bond, Underwater (Modified Elcometer Method): 50 psi Minimum (0.35 MPa)

The physical properties listed herein are typical and descriptive. Bond strengths are highly dependent on surface preparation and installation conditions. Pot life is temperature related. Cooler temperatures lengthen pot life.


Concrete Surfaces: New concrete must be fully cured (28 days minimum) before application of HYDROCOTE 1063 material.

The substrate must be clean and sound. Remove all marine growth, pain, grease, oil or other contaminants by sandblasting, waterblasting or rotary abrading. Create an anchor profile, if possible.

Steel Surfaces:

Steel surfaces must be cleaned to meet SSPC-SP6-63, “No. 6 Commercial Blast Cleaning.”

Wood Surfaces:

Remove all marine growth, pain, grease, oil and other contaminants by sandblasting, waterblasting or rotary abrading. Remove unsound wood.


Mix only the amount of paste that can be placed within the specified pot life. (Higher temperatures shorten pot life). Place equal parts of A and B on a flat disposable palette (i.e. sheet of cardboard) and mix with a flat bladed scraper or trowel. Mix until all evidence of the original white and black colors has disappeared and a uniform gray color is achieved.

Once mixed, HYDROCOTE 1063 material may be picked up and handled with gloved hands. Keep gloves thoroughly wet with water to prevent material from sticking to gloves. Material may be rolled into balls or ropes for ease of application.


When applied to surfaces underwater, it is necessary to “work” the paste on to the surface, using heavy hand pressure, being careful not to entrap water or air bubbles between the paste and the surface. Hold the paste against the surface for 10 to 15 seconds to obtain optimum adhesion. When used to cover cracks, work paste into one end of crack and progress along crack to other end, displacing water from the crack. Smooth outer surface of paste with gloved hand.


Mixed epoxy is much easier to clean up before it hardens. Solvents, such as acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or toluene may be used. Commercial epoxy strippers are recommended for hardened epoxy. Consult solvent manufacturer’s usage recommendations.


Prolonged or repeated contact with HYDROCOTE 1063 material may cause eye irritation and other allergic responses, such as skin irritation or dermatitis. Avoid contact with skin or eyes. In case of contact, wash skin with soap and water. Flush eyes immediately with water and contact a physician. If used indoors, provide adequate ventilation. Use soft-sided goggles, protective clothing, robber gloves and barrier creams.


Minimum application temperature is 40° F (4° C) To obtain maximum bond strength, local water conditions have to be taken into account and appropriate surface preparation procedures followed Shelf life is 24 months minimum when stored between 40° F and 90° F (4° F and 32° C)
